Solar Radiation Sensing

Requirement Identifier C_M_F_solarRadiationSensing

Name: Solar Radiation Sensor

Text: The Station Module of the PlanCTTM System shall provide information about the daily sunshine duration. For this purpose a sensor with capability of measuring solar radiation (in W/m2) is needed.

Required technical parameters:
  • Maximal mass: < 200g
  • Stock temperature: -45 Grad Celsius .. +125 Grad Celsius
  • Operating temperature: -35 Grad Celsius .. +85 Grad Celsius
  • Intesity measurement range: 2 [W/m2].. 1.400 [W/m2]
  • Spectral range: 380 nm .. 2.800 nm
  • Standard deviation error: max 5 %
  • Accuracy: standard deviation error + max. 2 % of the measured value
  • Resolution (in case of digitalized output): min. 10 bit
Rationale: Solar radiation transmitted through the Earth's atmosphere has two domains of incoming radiant fluxes which have a significant impact on plants: the photosynthetically active (0.38-0.7 nm) and the near infrared one (0.7-2.8 nm). The solar radiation intensity has to be examined in various wavelenghts, because the cloud absorption abnormality affects the plant groving and the formation of diseases differently. Moreover, summarizing the daily sunshine durations can give an accurate estimate of the actual evolution state of different plant cultures.

Source: In viticulture applications sunshine duration is a key indicator of the expected wine quality. This is a commonly required parameter by the end-users. (Hlaszny dr., Edit)
