Systems Engineering

Electronic Food Chain Inspection System (eFCIS)

The eFCIS is a simplified version of the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service. The high-level system design partially follows the TOGAF 9.1 recommendations, as well. Moreover, it is composed of Features List, Business Process Schematics (BPMN 2.0), UX/UI design, and DB design (sources are also available).

Plant Observer and Diagnostic System (PODS)

The system uses highly sophisticated contamination- and infection-estimating models to predict susceptibilities for several pathogens and pests (fungi, insects, acari). It is a cloud-based decision support and tactical plant protection management system with pest and disease predictions, based on plant forecasting models.

PlantCT™ intelligent plant protection system | Requirement Management

PlantCT™ is a functional, commercially available site-specific management system that continuously monitors weather and plants. It can help users mitigate the impact of harmful weather events on crops by enabling timely interventions.

Software Quality Assurance

Software quality assurance (SQA) is a process that assures that all software engineering processes, methods, activities and work items are monitored and comply with the defined standards.

Software Development Process

Identifying and understanding the present processes of an undocumented software system: Creating technical documentation, terminology, references.

Designing and Implementing a Spring Boot 2 Web service for an image processing service

The service is a cloud-based image processing platform, which offers: Increasing image quality and resolution of uploaded DICOM files. The highly sophisticated process is based on the ImageJ Java Library, published by National Institute of Health, automatically enhances any flaw in the uploaded files.

Engineering Safety Analysis: Device Hazard Analysis of a Medical Imaging Tool

The Device Hazard Analysis of a Medical Imaging Tool strictly follows the rules of the EN ISO 14971:2012 standard.

SysML Modelling

BBCH Estimator: Phenological models are well proven tools to forecast phenological events of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.), for example bud burst, flowering or veraison. Generic Infection Detector The Generic Infection Detector (GID) integrates the various infection detection models embedding them into a definite and uniform evaluation framework to ensure fine tunable prioritization and the needful mutual exclusion rules.

UX/UI Design

Data Visualization Elements for UI Design: Environmental Factors vs Infection Risks, Dashboard | Time Line, Dashboard | Map View, Frost Prediction, Frost Detection [1], [2], Financial Analysis [ROI], [ROE].

VVO—Ontology for Cultivated Grapevine

The VVO (Vitis Vinifera Ontology) is a controlled vocabulary that formally describes the morphological structures, phenological growth and developmental stages, quality parameters, dispositions, roles, and information entities of Vitis vinifera L., the common grapevine. The VVO (comprises 3,333 annotated classes) is aligned with the Basic Formal Ontology (BFO 2020). A sophisticated ontology browser is also available. Published on NCBO BioPortal.

OCS—A Foundational Ontology for Computational Sociology

No ontology has been created in the general sociological subject area so far. The OCS (Ontology for Computational Sociology) makes a modest attempt at this. It is containing the ontology itself (URL): (700+ classes covering general sociology, 254 object properties, 78 data properties, and 201 n-ary causal relations—all properly mapped under BFO 2020 toplevel ontology classes), a web-based ontology browser, and development tools for extending the system.
Published on NCBO BioPortal.

BDO—Building Domain Ontology

This guide presents a pragmatic methodology for developing applied domain ontologies. Emphasis is placed on modelling complex relationships including n-ary causal relations and interaction patterns that exceed simple binary predicates. Technical coverage encompasses OWL 2 DL, BFO 2020 alignment, reification patterns, and integration with semantic web infrastructure.

OWLschemafy—A free and downloadable front end to Protégé

OWLschemafy presents a streamlined ontology development approach through a user-friendly text-based interface. OWLschemafy integrates with the Protégé Ontology Editor, permitting users to capitalize on the strengths of both apps. Java sources, control files, Javadoc, and ontologies are available for free download.

DBFOschemafy—A DB-Driven, BFO–annotated Ontology Generator for Streamlined OWL

DBFOschemafy is an advanced Java-based ontology engineering tool that leverages a relational database for input, overcoming the scalability limitations of its predecessor, OWLschemafy (see above), which relied on text files. Any control and source data, extended data, supplementary information, and author details are available electronically.

A Comprehensive Wheat Ontology

Semantic Web—Developing a Comprehensive Wheat Ontology: A Building Approach. There are currently seven existing ontologies pertaining to wheat; however, none of them provide comprehensive information regarding the anatomical, and micro anatomical aspects of the plant. Research and Development Recommendations.

Epistemology, Ontology and Semantic Web

A short introduction: Epistemology delves into the nature and acquisition of knowledge. Ontology, on the other hand, grapples with the fundamental question of what constitutes reality itself. The Semantic Web presents a novel approach to enhance the Web, enabling direct machine comprehension. The source is also available.

Structural Representation of Grapevine Morphology in SysML

The authors present a new method in Systems Modeling Language (SysML) to model both the internal structure and interrelationships of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) morphology in different phenological phases of BBCH-scale measured evolutionary growth.

Regulation of Spermatogenesis Cycle - A Control Theory Approach

The authors summarize the well-known cycle of human spermatogenesis, trying to present an equivalent control schema together with some questions.

The Complement Immune System (CIS) - An Approach with Systems Biology, Graphic Notation Process Description

The authors present an SBGN Process Description of the widely discussed CIS. The goal of this paper is to illustrate the standardized SBGN graphical/visual representation of a biochemical and cellular process' main part: The signalling pathways.
